What is the Safe Pass?

Safe Pass is a one day safety awareness programme aimed at construction workers.  

The aims of the programme are to raise the standard of safety awareness in the construction industry and that all construction workers after completing the one day awareness programme can make a positive contribution to the prevention of accidents and ill health while working on the site.

The Safepass programme is operated and managed by Solas. www.solas.ie

Who Needs to do the Safe Pass Awareness Training?

Under the Safety Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013  Safe Pass Safety Awareness Programmes applies to –

(a) Craft and general construction workers,
(b) Persons undertaking on-site security work, and
(c) Persons or classes of persons as may be prescribed by the Minister.

The Health and Safety Authority in conjunction with the Construction Advisory Committee have produced a summary of the categories of persons to whom Safe Pass does and does not apply.

How Much is the Solas Safe Pass Course?

The Solas Safe Pass course is €165

Who Pays for the SafePass course?

Generally the employer pays for the Safepass course. 

The  employer under section 10,25 & 26 of Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Act, 2005 is responsible to allow employees time off from their duties for awareness training as may be reasonable having regard to their health and safety without loss of remuneration.

That said, if you are a student or a seasonal worker, you will have to pay for the safepass yourself.


When do I need to renew my Safe Pass?

The Safepass awareness course should be renewed every 4 years. 

What if I lose My Solas Safepass?

If your Safe Pass Registration Card has been lost, stolen or damaged you can apply for a replacement which costs €32.

Please complete the Online Replacement Card Form, attach a current passport-quality photograph and complete the online payment. Please remember to use a high-quality photo. 

Applications may be rejected if your photo is low quality.

Replacement cards are generally issued within two to three weeks of receipt of your fully completed replacement form and correct payment.

Can I do My SafePass Online?

At this time the safe pass course can not be taking online.

Safepass is a mandatory one-day health and safety awareness programme.

The aim of the programme is to raise the standard of safety awareness in the construction industry and to ensure that, over time, all site personnel undergo basic health and safety awareness training to enable them to work onsite without being a risk to themselves or others who might be affected by their acts or omissions. 

Candidates who successfully complete the programme will receive a Safe Pass Registration Card.

How Do I Get a Safe Pass Card
